How to Complete a PARTIAL Merit Badge
Please follow the directions below to complete your in-progress PARTIAL Merit Badges. This is for all Merit Badges that you have started through some official Scouting Program and do not yet have a Merit Badge Counselor for them. This includes Merit Badges from Summer Camp, High Adventure Camp, Merit Badge University, Merit Badge Classes, or a Previous Troop.
Any Merit Badge that you just decided to start outside of an official class or event does not count here.
In this case, you must follow “How to Start a NEW Merit Badge“. Understand that it will be up to the Merit Badge Counselor to decide if you get to retain any credit for work already completed. Please remember the official BSA Policy is that no work on a Merit Badges counts until AFTER you have initiated your Merit Badge with a Merit Badge Counselor.
As soon as possible, either before, during, or right after a Troop Meeting approach the Advancement Chair and politely wait your turn. Speak with the Advancement Chair and tell them you would like to report that you have started a Merit Badge. Tell them what your name is and which Merit Badge you have started, where you started the Merit Badge (Summer Camp, High Adventure Camp, Merit Badge University, Merit Badge Classes, or a Previous Troop).
If you have a Blue Card and/or any other record of partially completed requirements, please present them to the Advancement Chair now. If you do not have a Blue Card, the Advancement Chair will take a blank Blue Card and hand it to you. You are to put your name on it and the name of the Merit Badge you would like to complete.
While you are writing your name and Merit Badge on the Blue Card, the Advancement Chair will be initiating the start of your Merit Badge on your ScoutBook account. The Advancement Chair will transfer completed requirements onto the Blue Card. The Advancement Chair will then instruct you that you need to get the Scoutmaster to approve you to begin the Merit Badge by signing the Blue Card. You should do this by the end of this Troop Meeting.
NEXT STEPS: At this point, you will follow the Merit Badge guidelines on “How to Start a NEW Merit Badge“, starting at item 2. Merit Badge Counselor.
